Two of my friends and I journeyed to Saxapahaw, NC—home to 1,400 people—to see Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks. Dear readers, it was an experience. I wish we’d been able to learn more about this weird town while we were there. The venue was located in a complex with apartments, a school, constabulary, and the general store. SM’s eponymous album is one of my very favorite albums, but when he played “The Hook,” he absolutely mangled the lyrics. There was a lot of funny stuff happening on stage, yet no one outside of our party was laughing. Aaand we stayed afterward and met him. Hooray! View Larger
